“Meander” is a triumph of imaginative production design, startling cinematography, and warped writing. You’ll drive yourself crazy trying to figure out the who, what, and why behind this bizarre premise. Shrewdly, Turi leaves a lot to the imagination, so he doesn’t have to fill in the particulars. After the opening 30 minutes, focusing primarily on Lisa and Adam, the tunnels dominate the plot and acquire a spooky, larger-than-life presence. Jet spray nozzles spewing fire, wind, and water incinerate any human remains obstructing the tunnels and keep them immaculate. Literally, Lisa contends with what could be described as a ‘smart’ tunnel. “Point Blank” (2010) lenser Alain Duplantier employs Dutch-tilt camera angles to heighten the paranoia.
